由美國新銳作曲家兼聲音藝術家 Meara O’Reilly 創作,她以「斷奏」(Hocket)的節奏線性技法創作,打造出獨特且引人入勝的聲音體驗,彷彿一場忽明忽滅的聲音遊戲。
「斷奏」是一種將旋律分配給兩個(或更多)聲部的音樂技法,聲部之間輪流演奏:當一方發聲時,另一方休止,聲音像是在彼此追逐。這種技法源自中世紀歐洲的聲樂作品,也能在非洲的民俗音樂中找到其身影。
專輯《Hockets for Two Voices》由七個樂章組成,每個樂章僅兩分鐘以內,但錄製卻耗時整整一年,對聲樂精準度的要求極高,使 Meara O’Reilly 在錄音過程中不斷挑戰自己的生理極限。她透過圖形譜(詳見內頁說明)設計出層次豐富的斷奏結構,並受到心理聲學研究者 Albert Bregman 的啟發,將斷奏的多聲部美感融合至極致。
